Is it painful to get Dental Implants?

January 18, 2018

Dental implants are the biggest advancement to dentistry of the century.  You may have heard details about drilling and screwing of dental implants into the jaw, it sounds painful, and seems like a major surgical procedure with associated trauma and pain. In reality, placement of dental implants in your jaw bone is easy and done with minimal trauma.  As compared to performing diseased tooth removal, implant procedures are rather easy to sit through. During placement dental implants have been associated with little discomfort under single local anesthesia. Newer techniques have made it easier. The ideal time to place a dental implant is at the time of tooth removal – immediate dental implant.  Your gentle dentist at Oakville North Dentistry will help you answer all the questions, and are confident to offer implants, titanium and ceramic, at our practice.

One of the most stressful times of the year is during the holidays. Between Thanksgiving and New Years, partying and family gatherings are at the top of the list.  But for many, somewhere along the way, the stress, the unrealistic expectations and the unreasonable demands show up; and the next thing you know, you’re anxious, depressed, over-tired. If you have been waking up with your teeth clenched, and your head muscles in painful spasm, you might seriously consider seeing your dentist for some resolution, before you do some significant harm to your dentition or you temporal mandibular joint (TMJ).   Most people are unaware that they grind their teeth. However, a dull, constant headache or sore jaw is a telltale symptom. In some cases, bruxism can result in a fracturing, loosening, or loss of teeth. The chronic grinding or clenching may wear teeth down to stumps. Definitely not pretty, and real expensive to restore. So prevention really is key here.   I remember one patient told me that she felt she had literally “eaten her teeth away.”  She felt that her entire face had shrunk, making her look much older and more worn than her true age. And her lower teeth were now the same size as grains of rice.   If you suspect you may be grinding your teeth, talk to us, at Oakville North Dentistry.. Not only can we examine your mouth and jaw for signs of bruxism, but

Your first visit with us at Oakville North Dentistry will give us an opportunity to introduce you to our caring and professional staff who are dedicated to ensuring you are pampered and relaxed. What to Expect: Our new patient experience will consist of the following:

  • A thorough discussion of all of your concerns
  • A detailed medical and dental history review
  • Comprehensive dental and periodontal examination
  • Oral Cancer Examination
  • Head and Neck cancer screening

If you have a dental concern that needs to be addressed immediately upon seeing you at your first visit, we will provide that care to you and reschedule your initial visit appointment. Teeth cleaning may be performed during your first visit, or might be scheduled for a follow-up visit. At your first visit Dr. Deniz or Dr. Bighiu gently and thoroughly   examine and diagnose the health of your mouth, then discuss that with you and make certain you are scheduled for the most appropriate type of care following your visit. Make a list of questions you may have for the dentist and dental team. Think about past dental experiences you have had and what you think would have made them better, then write it down and bring it with you. We want to tailor each appointment with us to your needs.

“ Both periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease are inflammatory diseases and inflammation is the common mechanism that connects them”, says Dr. Cochran, PhD.   A consensus paper on the relationship between heart disease and gum disease was recently developed. Managing one disease may reduce the risk for the other.   At Oakville North Dentistry we have experienced dentists and hygienists who are trained to treat periodontal disease with a focus on reducing and controlling the bacterial accumulations and eliminating inflammation.

Porcelain is the most biocompatible, hypo-allergenic, non-metallic restorative material of which we are aware at this time.  Porcelain restorations are also dramatically less effected by factors that influence longevity of other fillings: restorative technique, filling size, your body chemistry, and your nutritional intake.  Porcelain restorations (inlays, onlays & crowns) can last 12-15 years or longer.  At Oakville North Dentistry we strive to be the best dental office in Oakville and we offer the best quality porcelain to our patients .  Porcelain restorations cost more than ceramic composites initially, but porcelain’s longevity decreases the potential need for more dental treatment.

Smiling comes easy for some people, but for others, it can be more of a challenge. Smiling lowers stress; when we feel anger, fear, and unhappiness, it shows on our face, it also shows inside our bodies as we begin to produce more of the stress hormone known as cortisol.  Over time, this can lead to some pretty serious medical problems, but when we smile and laugh, our bodies produce endorphins.  They work at reducing the cortisol and naturally lower stress.  They’ve even been known to relieve pain. If you are unhappy with your smile, call Dr. Deniz or Dr. Bighiu at Oakville North Dentistry 289-725-0000, so we can help you achieve a naturally healthier smile you can be confident in.

Better Healing From Within Tooth loss and damage to the jaw bone and tissues are often challenging for your dentist during oral surgery or implant placement. Without enough support in the jaw bone, dental implants cannot be immediately stabilized and tissue healing can be a long process. The solution to these and other difficult situations is a new Platelet Therapy created from your own blood. Leukocyte – Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) changes all the rules as it promotes healing and bone growth from within your own body.  Unlike other treatments that use artificial components, Platelet Therapy with L-PRF uses only your own blood. With a simple blood draw and an advanced technology protocol, L-PRF is individually made for you – from you. The end results are improved healing response and significantly less recovery time. What is Platelet Fibrin Therapy?  Platelet Fibrin Therapy uses L-PRF clots to promote healing. It is as painless as a routine blood draw. L-PRF uses your own blood, with NO additive whatsover. Reducing the risk of allergy, or side effects because your own concentrated platelets, with their own unique healing abilities are simply re-introduced at the site of your extraction, implant placement or other surgical site. How are L-PRF clots created?  L-PRF clots are first created by taking a small blood sample from
